Olympic Day
CELEBRATING THE OLYMPIC MOVEMENT
As part of its ongoing effort to raise the profile and impact of St. Louis’ status as an Olympic city, the St. Louis Sports Commission has started a tradition in which area youth will run the Olympic Stadium track with Jackie Joyner-Kersee and other Olympians every Olympic Day on June 21.
The event connects to St. Louis’ Olympic legacy as host of the 1904 Summer Games and the birthplace of the Olympics in America. It also gives St. Louis community members a chance to participate in the worldwide celebration of Olympic Day, created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894.
