NATIONALLY-TELEVISED EVENT WILL HONOR WAYNE & JANET GRETZKY AND THOSE WHO EMBODY EXTRAORDINARY CHARACTER
ST. LOUIS – Nov. 17, 2021 – The year’s greatest moments of sportsmanship and the ultimate “good sports” will be honored in St. Louis on Saturday night (Nov. 20) as the Musial Awards return to Stifel Theatre. The national event celebrates those in sports who exemplify class and character. Showtime is 7 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available through Ticketmaster. The show will air nationally as a one-hour special on CBS on Christmas Day at 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT.
This year’s honorees include Wayne and Janet Gretzky, who are receiving the Stan Musial Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest award for sportsmanship. Scripps National Spelling Bee winner Zaila Avant-garde will receive the Stan Musial Award for Extraordinary Character. Other award winners include the LSU Gymnastics program, Buffalo Bills fans Dan Konopski and William Burke, University of Toledo offensive lineman Lavel Dumont, Iowa high school football player Mario Hoefer, and Arkansas 12-year-old cross country runner Rebel Hays. Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper and Olympic high jump champions Mutaz Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi are unable to attend the event Saturday night, but will be recognized during the show, and Barshim will appear remotely from Doha, Qatar to accept his Musial Award.

With the health and safety of guests a priority, the Musial Awards will require all ticketholders to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result: either a PCR test taken within 72 hours or an antigen test taken within 24 hours of arrival at the event.
THE MUSIAL AWARDS ON CBS:
For the third year, the Musial Awards will be seen throughout the country on CBS. The network will air the Musial Awards as a one-hour special on Christmas Day at 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT. Additionally, the telecast will run twice on cable’s CBS Sports Network. In partnership with the St. Louis Sports Commission and the National Sportsmanship Foundation, the broadcast is produced by Al Roker Entertainment, the production arm of 14-time Emmy award-winning TV personality Al Roker.

The Musial Awards presented by Maryville University takes place annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving at the historic 3,000-seat Stifel Theatre in Downtown St. Louis. The show is produced by the St. Louis Sports Commission and the National Sportsmanship Foundation, a charitable nonprofit organization.
