THE STORY BEHIND REF NIGHT
This event was inspired by our 2020 Musial Award honorees Max Gerschman and Chris King who created Ref Appreciation Night at an Islanders game in New York. You can watch their story and see what we’re trying to replicate here: musialawards.com/honorees/chris-king-max-gerschman/.
HOW IT WORKS
As part of the Referee Appreciation Night section, we are cheering for the REFS, not the BLUES! So, while it may seem unnatural, when there is an icing call, we cheer for the REFS! When there is an offsides call, we cheer for the REFS! And any time the refs make a call of ANY kind for EITHER team (even if you don’t personally agree with it), we will be supporting, clapping, and cheering!
