U.S. Dominates ISU Grand Prix Final

The United States captured gold in four events in last weekend’s ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Japan, claiming titles in three of the four senior disciplines for the second straight year.

Ilia Malinin added his name to the history books once again by tallying a new world record free skate score and becoming the first-ever athlete to cleanly land seven quadruple jumps in one program in winning his third straight gold at the Final.  Also making history, Madison Chock and Evan Bates earned gold to secure their seventh Grand Prix Final medal, the most of any ice dance team in the history of the event.

Reigning women’s world champion Alysa Liu clinched gold in her Grand Prix Final debut. This marks the first time the U.S. has won back-to-back golds in the women’s event since Tara Lipinsky won consecutive titles in 1996 and 1997.
