About the Biz Dash 5K

Consider the Biz Dash a Thursday night happy hour or company outing. There’s company tents, hospitality, tailgate games, live music and a corporate 5K making it “St. Louis’ Biggest Office Party!” All levels of runners and walkers are encouraged to participate for their Company Team. With Industry Categories, a CEO Challenge, T-Shirt Contest and Spirit Award, the Biz Dash has something for everybody. Join the 180+ companies and over 4,000 participants for a fun night of team building and networking!


Rules & Eligibility

The Biz Dash is open to employees from corporations, small and large businesses and financial institutions. Employees of non-business organizations (federal, state and municipal governments, educational institutions, and quasi-governmental organizations) are also eligible to participate as long as they are employed by the same unit, branch, chapter or school.

Company Team Eligibility:

  • In order to be eligible for a Company Team, participants must be actively employed and work a minimum of 25 hours per week.
  • Companies may register an unlimited number of employees for their team, all of whom will be individually timed.
  • Team scores will only include participants who are employed by that Company Team. Family and/or friends may be included on Company Teams (if designated during registration), but they will not be eligible for team scoring. All runners will be able to view their individual times.
  • Companies must have a minimum of four participants to be eligible for team scoring (two men and two women). See “Scoring & Awards” for more details on how teams are recorded.
  • The CEO Challenge category is available to companies with five or more full-time employees. Please refer to “Scoring & Awards” for more details regarding this category.

Individual Participate /Sports Foundation Team:

  • Individuals are welcome to join the Sports Foundation Team if their company is not participating.
  • On the Registration page, select the “I’m Not On A Company Team” button. You can join the “Sports Foundation Team” by using the password “stlsports”.
  • Sports Foundation participants will only be eligible for the overall male and female awards.

Race Day Rules:

  • All participants must wear their assigned race bib on the front of the shirt during the race. Race numbers must be visible and in full view.
  • For safety reasons, bicycles, roller skates, in-line skates, and pets will be prohibited on the course and in the Team Village.
  • You may not bring outside food or alcohol into the Spire Team Village.
  • Entries are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be deferred to another year.
  • Children 3 years old and under are free and do not need to be registered.
  • Event management reserves the right to delay, postpone or cancel the event due to inclement weather deemed unsafe. Participant safety is the number one priority. Entries are non-refundable in the case of cancellation.

Registration Fees

$35 per participant until Wednesday, September 12 at 11:59 p.m.

$40 per participant starting Thursday, September 13

Company Team registration closes: Thursday, September 20 at 11:59 p.m.

Sports Foundation Team closes: Wednesday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m.

No walk-up, race-day or paper registrations, ALL participants must register online. Entries are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be deferred to another year.

Sports Foundation Team
Participants pay by credit card through the online registration system.

Company Teams
Team Captains have three options for covering entry fees. Captains must make this selection in the “Event Cost” section during team creation. Be sure to talk to your Human Resources or Wellness department to determine how your company will handle payment for this event.

  1. Employees pay their own entry fee (at no cost to the company).
  2. Company pays for a percentage of each entry fee. The remainder is covered by each individual employee.
  3. Company pays for 100% of entry fees. Team Captains will have access to a “Team Invoice” feature through their Team Captain Homepage to view a running balance of their participants. Team Invoices will be sent out on Monday, September 24 to all Team Captains.

Options for Remitting Payment:

Team Captains will select an industry category when creating their Company Team. This category will create division assignments that enable companies to compete against similar companies/industries. There are 18 industry categories to choose from listed below:

Scoring & Awards

Awards will be presented on the Missouri Lottery Stage before and after the race in these categories:

Pre-Race Awards:

  • Largest Company Team
  • T-Shirt Contest (Most Creative, Best Design & Best Humor)
  • Spirit Award

Post-Race Awards:

  • Overall Male
  • Overall Female
  • Male CEO
  • Female CEO
  • Fastest Small Company (149 or less employees)
  • Fastest Midsize Company (150-499 employees)
  • Fastest Large Company (500 or more employees)
  • Top Team in each Industry Category (18 Total)

 

Overall Male & Female – The Overall category will be scored according to the first runners that cross the finish line.

 

HBM Holdings CEO Challenge – The HBM Holdings CEO Challenge is available to companies with 5 or more full-time employees. It will be scored according to individual chip time (in male and female categories). A CEO Challenge participant must have an Executive or C-Suite Title at their company in order to be eligible. This category welcomes both runners and walkers! Please be sure they are registered for the event by joining your Company Team.

 

Top Team in each Industry Category presented by Fox Sports Midwest – The Top Team category will be scored according to chip times for all 18 Industry Categories. A company must have a minimum of two men and two women to qualify for team scoring. The top two male finishers and top two female finishers from each Company Team will be automatically combined to create a cumulative team time. ALL participants on Company Teams will have an opportunity to view their individual times.

 

Fastest Small, Midsize & Large Companies – The Fastest Small, Midsize and Large Teams will be scored according to chip times. These categories will be determined by the total number of active (local) employees at each company who work a minimum of 25 hours per week. If there are multiple (local) office locations participating, each employee must be included in the total count. A company is required to have a minimum of two men and two women to qualify. The top two male finishers and top two female finishers from each team will be automatically combined to create a cumulative team time. Team Captains will select their appropriate company size at the time of team creation.

 

Largest Company Team – The “Largest Company Team” with the most participants registered will be recognized and awarded the evening of the race.

 

Spirit Award – Award will be given out to the company team who best exemplifies the following criteria: camaraderie, signs, cheering, enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship. After the winner is announced, the company team will lead the rest of the participants over to the start line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost to register for the event?

$35 per participant until Wednesday, September 12 at 11:59 p.m.

$40 per participant starting Thursday, September 13 until Thursday, September 20 at 11:59 p.m.

Does a company have to pay for their participants?
No, it is free to create a company team. During team creation, Team Captains can set up payment with one of three options:

  1. Employees pay their own entry fee (at no cost to the company).
  2. Company pays for a percentage of each entry fee. The remainder is covered by each individual employee.
  3. Company pays for 100% of entry fees. Team Captains will have access to a “Team Invoice” feature through their Team Captain Homepage to view a running balance of their Company Team. Team Invoices will be sent out Monday, September 24 to all Team Captains.

When is the registration deadline?
Company Team registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, September 20.
Individuals who do not have a team or miss the deadline can join the Sports Foundation (general public) team up until Wednesday, September 26 at 5 p.m.

Is race day registration offered?
There is no race day registration. All participants must pre-register online by the deadlines above.

Are race bibs transferable?
Race bibs may not be transferred to another runner, even in the event that the registered runner cannot attend. Doing so will disqualify the bib number.

Are there refunds on registration?
The race does not issue refunds or race entry transfers.

Can I register if my company is not involved?
Yes! You will just need to join the “Sports Foundation Team” on the registration page. The password is “stlsports.” This team is available to the general public for any individual participants.

Is there a limit as to how many people can register for each Company Team?
No, companies can have an unlimited number of participants represent their Company Teams.

Is the race timed?
Yes, the race is chip-timed with results.

Can family and/or friends participate on a Company Team?
Family and/or friends may be included on Company Teams if designated during registration, but they will not be eligible for team scoring. Team Captains can make this option available for their team during team creation. All runners will be able to view their individual times.

What is your child policy?
Children 3 years old and under are free and do not need to be registered.

Who is eligible for the HBM Holdings CEO Challenge?
The HBM Holdings CEO Challenge is available to companies with 5 or more full-time employees. It will be scored according to individual chip time (in male and female categories). A CEO Challenge participant must have an Executive or C-Suite Title at their company in order to be eligible. This category welcomes both runners and walkers! Please be sure they are registered for the event by joining your Company Team. Team Captains will be asked a custom question at the time of team creation on whether they would like to include someone into the CEO Challenge.

Can I walk or jog the race if I am not competitive?
Certainly! Anyone who is physically able to complete a 5K (3.1 miles) is encouraged to participate. We encourage all levels of runners and walkers.

Can we stick around after the race?
Absolutely, everyone is welcome hang out in the Spire Team Village and enjoy the post-race festivities at Soldiers Memorial. The awards ceremony will start at approximately 8:30 p.m.

How early should I arrive?
The Spire Team Village will be open from 5:00-10:00 p.m. The 5K race will be at 7:00 p.m.

Can our team bring our own food and drinks?
Personal food and beverages will not be permitted. Food and beverages in the Spire Team Village can only be purchased through the designated food stands in the village or via the catering options for team tents.

Is a Company Team required to purchase a tent?
It is not required that Company Teams purchase a tent, but we strongly encourage it! A team tent is a great spot to meet before and after the race, and companies can also pre-order food and beverages to be served at your tent to refuel after the race. (Your team must have a tent purchased to pre-order food/beverages via our catering partners). It is recommended that you determine the number of participants your company will have before you purchase your team tent. Tent rentals are non-refundable after purchase.

Are strollers allowed?
Strollers are permitted during the Biz Dash 5K. If running with a stroller, please line up towards the back and allow other runners without strollers to go ahead.

Does the Biz Dash 5K have a beneficiary?
Yes, it benefits the St. Louis Sports Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable affiliate. The Foundation implements programs and activities that promote sportsmanship, create positive environments for kids to play sports, and help young people in St. Louis lead healthier, happier lives.

Is this event tax-deductible?
This event is tax-deductible for companies who are a sponsor or donate for the event.  

What is the weather policy?
The Biz Dash will go on rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, a call will be made about the race at that time.

Can my company promote at the event or market as a vendor booth?
The Biz Dash does not allow companies or teams to promote their own events or fundraisers while at the event. Vendor booths and handing out promotional items are prohibited. The best way to promote your company is through your team t-shirts or the decorations that are allowed within the team tents. For guidelines on tent rentals, please click here.
